Sourced directly from the artisan to pay her better prices

In early 2020, we hit the road, looking for artisanal weavers that could supply us with beautiful baskets, directly.

We found Mrs Queen Cele in rural KZN, and worked over numerous months to perfect the design, and solve the logistics, to get them to us in Cape Town.

We named the basket after the craftsperson and the material it is made of - Ilala Palm Leaves - which grow abundantly in KZN, and all the way to Somalia.

We hope you enjoy these wonderful creations. Each one is hand-crafted and perfectly imperfect! Hence the range of sizes :)
